Dinner conference at the Yacht Club de Monaco to benefit Cap Optimist
On Thursday, March 10th, the Yacht Club de Monaco organized a dinner conference to present the Cap Optimist challenge to its members and partners, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, H.E. Mr Pierre Dartout, Minister of State, Mr Gareth Wittstock, Secretary General of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, and Mr and Mrs Tsouvelekakis.
Stéphanie Geyer Barneix, coastal rescue champion and record holder of multiple sea crossings, presented the challenge with her team: to cross the South Pacific in relay on a paddleboard, from Peru to French Polynesia, to set a new world record in 2023 and promote the Hope Team East association that helps sick people live better thanks to sports.
The team, composed of 6 experienced water women and rescue champions (Stéphanie Geyer Barneix, Alexandra Lux, Emmanuelle Bescheron, Itziar Abascal, Margot Calvet, Marie Goyeneche) will do a Test Expedition on June 5, 2022, departing from the Yacht Club and arriving in Athens, Greece, 15 days and more than 1800 kilometres later.
The goal: test the equipment and the relay methods, and raise funds for the educational projects of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and for the ELPIDA association in Greece, which supports sick and cancer-stricken children. For these fearless waterwomen, the challenge is a way to surpass themselves and spread a strong message about the will to overcome disease through sport.
Cap Optimist offers donors a way to support them through the purchase of kilometres (1 km = 100 €) representing the effort and distance of this crossing.
Thank you to the Hellenic Community of Monaco who also supports this challenge and who participated in the organization of this dinner conference.
