Drowning Awareness Operation at the Grimaldi Forum
This Friday, November 22, the Grimaldi Forum welcomed all the students of Cours Préparatoire (CP) of Monaco, or 310 children, for a morning of awareness raising on drowning prevention, in the presence of H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco.
This initiative was organized by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation in collaboration with the Department of National Education, Youth and Sports (DENJS), the Monaco City Hall, the Monaco Red Cross, the Maritime and Airport Police Division, the Monaco Fire Brigade, and the Monaco Academy of the Sea. The main objective of this morning was to raise awareness among young people on drowning prevention, by offering theoretical and practical workshops.
During short sessions led by the partners, the children were able to acquire essential knowledge about drowning, discover emergency equipment in the event of an accident and learn first aid actions that can save lives.
The students also attended a reading of the second edition of the book “La Magie de l’Eau”, presented by its author, Mélinda Guery, and the patron of the association La Magie de l’Eau Sandrine Raymond Lucarini, with which the Foundation collaborates. This illustrated and poetic work encourages children to learn to swim and provides them with keys to better understand the aquatic environment.
At the end of this morning, each child received a copy of the book, as well as a bag containing a swimming cap and a winter hat in the colors of the Foundation.
All the partners of this event are joining forces to ensure that drowning, which claims more than 230,000 victims worldwide each year, is not an inevitable occurrence in Monaco.
