Journée mondiale de prévention de la noyade

On Thursday, July 25th, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation organized, in collaboration with the Monaco City Hall, the Monaco Red Cross, the Monaco Fire Brigade, the Public Safety and the Monaco Water Rescue and Diving Center, the “World Drowning Prevention Day” at the Rainier II Nautical Stadium.

The date of July 25th was set by the United Nations in April 2021 with the adoption of the resolution on global drowning prevention. This resolution calls on all Member States to take national and local measures to combat this silent epidemic.

The purpose of this day is to remind people of the consequences of drowning and to offer children and adults practical solutions to promote safety in the aquatic environment, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

On this occasion, a partners’ village was set up at the entrance to the municipal swimming pool, in order to raise public awareness of the actions carried out by Monegasque entities in the fight against drowning and the risks associated with summer activities.

Also in this context, the Foundation offered young people under 18 free access to the swimming pool throughout the day and the opportunity to take the aquatic ease test.
