World Drowning Prevention Day 2023 at the Stade Nautique Rainier III
This Tuesday, July 25th for World Drowning Prevention Day, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation was welcomed by the Mairie de Monaco at the Rainier III Nautical Stadium for a day to raise awareness of the dangers of drowning in partnership with the Mairie, the Monaco Red Cross, the Maritime and Airport Police Division of Monaco, the Monaco Fire Brigade and the Monegasque Academy of the Sea.
Throughout the day, entry to the pool grounds was free for young people under the age of 18. 143 children were thus able to benefit from these workshops.
During the afternoon, stands were held at the entrance of the pool by partners, for the public to discover their actions and goals related to drowning prevention and associated health risks:
- The Monaco Maritime Police exhibited the specialized equipment it uses in its sea rescue operations.
- The Monaco Red Cross and the Monaco Fire Brigade offered demonstrations and initiations to first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on mannequins.
- The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation presented its actions and projects carried out since 2012 for drowning prevention and reminded the audience of essential water safety measures.
Every hour from 2pm to 6pm, water rescue demonstrations were carried out in the pool by the lifeguards of the Rainier III Nautical Stadium and of the Maritime Police.
The objective of this day is to remind children and adults of practical solutions to ensure their safety in water environments, in accordance with World Health Organization recommendations.
The date of July 25th was decided in April 2021 by the United Nations, with the adoption of the Resolution on Global Drowning Prevention which calls on all Member States to take national and local measures to address this silent epidemic.
