Sospel Natation Azur
This Friday, September 16th in the afternoon, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation visited the educational facilities of the Sospel swimming pool, in the presence of Mr. Gareth Wittstock, Secretary General of the Foundation, Mr. Remi Besson, Board Member of the PACA League of the French Swimming Federation (FFN), and Mr. Renaud Detoeuf and Mrs. Martine Ferrero, Deputy Mayors of Sospel.
During the month of September 2022, the Foundation is partnering with the Town of Sospel and the FFN for the implementation of the “Sospel Natation Azur” project, which aims to teach the practice of swimming to schoolchildren from Sospel as well as from the towns of Breil-sur-Roya and Moulinet. This project will allow nearly 300 children from kindergarten until 6th grade to acquire the minimum skills to ensure their safety in the water during the 10 sessions, and to perform the “Sauv’Nage” test approved by the French Swimming School and the FFN.
This Friday between 2 pm and 4 pm, 70 children from the CP, CE1, CE2 and CM1 classes of the Sospel school were able to enjoy the swimming lessons, supervised by FFN-certified swimming instructors.
The outdoor swimming pool of Sospel, closed for 3 years, was reopened and renovated in 2022. This swimming pool, a real educational asset for the municipality, will allow the teaching of swimming on a more regular basis in conjunction with schools and leisure centres.
As it is usually only accessible in July and August, the swimming pool has been set up to host the “Sospel Natation Azur” project in September. In 2023, it will also be able to welcome children during the month of June for a wider reach of the project.
This project is inspired by the program entitled “La Turbie Natation Azur” which, since 2014, teaches swimming to young children before the beginning of summer at the Princess Charlene Municipal Swimming Pool of La Turbie, thanks to a partnership between the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the City of La Turbie, the Côte d’Azur Committee and the FFN.
