The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation supports the Child Drowning Prevention Programme in Cambodia, managed by Helpcode. With the technical assistance of SWIM Cambodia, young people and adults follow specific training on water safety and lifesaving gestures. These trainings take place in Phnom Penh, as well as in rural areas of Sihanoukville province.
The international organization Helpcode works to ensure that children are accompanied within a family and a community, helping them to develop their potential through quality education.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning is a silent epidemic in Cambodia. It is responsible for about 5 deaths per day, mainly among children under 9 years of age.
The ultimate goal of the project is to reduce the devastating rates of child drowning in the country. This project seeks to raise awareness of prevention measures among young people and families in the most vulnerable communities. Thanks to theoretical teaching, children feel more confident near the water.
Project goals:
To provide courses on water safety, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and lifesaving.
To develop initiatives to raise awareness of child drowning in Cambodia and Europe.
