Swim & Survive Access & Equity Program

2018 - 2019

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation supported the Royal Life Saving Society Australia’s Swim & Survive Access & Equity programme, implemented with Gymea’s Community Information and Support Service to offer two learn to swim and water safety sessions in 2018 and 2019.

Participants in these sessions were newly arrived migrants, with little or no swimming experience. The programs allowed them to develop new skills during a series of lessons designed to help increase their safety in the water.

The funds for these programmes came from a fundraiser organized in Sydney following a 5-day event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the presence of the Embassy of Monaco in Australia. Funds raised were donated to RLSS Australia’s Learn to Swim program. AUD30,000 were raised (between €19,000 and €20,000) and were donated to RLSSA by the Park Hyatt Hotel.

Project goals:

To teach swimming to children & adults at Gymea.

To help develop swimming skills for a better safety in the aquatic environment.
